Visitors to Help for all
from email spiders
One way for spammers to find good email addresses to send their junk to is to scan the internet for email addresses using email spiders. If you enter an email address onto one of your wiki pages, the chances are good that some spammer will find it.
There are many methods you can use to hide an email address from the spiders.
Note: The email addresses that you sometimes see attached to page revisions in a wiki are only visible to a person who is logged into that wiki. Email spiders can't see these addresses.
This is my favorite method to provide contacts on a website. PBwiki now provides this at the bottom of every wiki page. Just click on "Contact the wiki owner" to get to a comment form that will end up in an email to the owner.
Here is another free and fantastic service for placing a comment link on a page.
Xinbox.com is one of these services. Just sign up and they'll give you a link that lets people write you. They will never see your email address.
Here is my link, drop me a note if you want to.

Access Definitions:
• Visitor - some viewing a public PBwiki page (anyone on the internet)
• Reader - someone invited to a Premium wiki with no rights to edit pages
• Contributor - someone invited to a Premium wiki with the right to edit pages
• Moderator - someone invited to a Premium wiki with the rights to edit pages and change settings
• Administrator - can do all of the above and has the power to delete the wiki or change the admin invite key
Note: The only Access Levels in a free wiki are Visitor and Administrator.
See Access Levels for more details.
Public Wiki:
Visitors to a public wiki can't see any email addresses unless you type the email addresses into a page on purpose. If you invite someone to a wiki, they will see pretty much whatever you can see. Email addresses of other members of the wiki may be visible depending on how you invited them.
See Inviting People for more details.
Private Wiki:
Visitors to a Private wiki can't see anything other than the login page. Anyone you invite to your Private wikis can see nearly anything you can see. If you see email addresses, they will too. Your simplest solution is to invite only peope you can trust not to spam you or harrass you.
Can you make it fool proof so that nobody can see any email addresses?
Only after following these steps:
• Change all the invite keys (Sharing page in Settings) and force everyone to enter your wiki using only PBwiki Accounts. This means you'll have to invite everyone using the Users page in Settings.
• Delete all pages in the wiki that show an email address when you view the page History (see the bottom of a page). You should create pages only if you logged into a PBwiki Account with a hidden email address.
• Make sure eveyone using the wiki is "hiding" their email address by unchecking a box in the Profile tab in their PBwiki Account.
What are your altenatives?
If you need to have visitors (people who are not registered) see pages, you can post information on a Public wiki so that anyone can see the pages. Post all your private information on a Private wiki so that you can control who sees it. In a private wiki, invite only people you can trust.
